Message of peace were shared and diversity was celebrated when the Sri Chinmoy Oneness-Home Peace Run visited Cooinda Primary School on Tuesday.

The Australian branch of the run began in York on October 13, and continued south along a special circuit in the South West, stopping in Albany before looping back and arriving in Bunbury this week.

English as an Additional Language teacher Georgina Eichenberger said it was nice to have them visit the school and promote peace.

"They are people promoting friendship and harmony throughout our community," she said.

"Cooinda is a happy place - a nurturing and caring environment, and we'd like the children to learn about these values."

During the visit, the peace runners spoke before students sang songs about peace and those from different cultural backgrounds learnt the word for "peace" in their own language.

They then planted a peace tree at the school and some of the students got to join the runners with the peace torch with a run around the school oval.

The peace runners also unveiled a peace plaque in the Friendship Garden at Queens Gardens and Mayor Gary Brennan hosted an afternoon tea to welcome them to Bunbury.

"The message carried by the peace run participants complements the city's vision of a harmonious community," he said.

"Events such as the peace run remind us that we all have a role to play in making our community a peaceful and vibrant place to live."
