Super Barbie, Ken, Where's Wally and Freeze Girl were among the colourful characters on display at Cooinda Primary School on Friday.

As part of the school's third annual Embarrass Your Teacher Day, students donated money to see their teachers dressed up as superheroes for the day.

Principal Anne Fletcher - also known as The Mysterious Orange Queen - said that rather than having a free-dress day for students, it was also a way for them to see teachers in a different light.

"School is about having fun as well," Mrs Fletcher said.

"They get a sense that teachers can have fun as well."

Each class contributed at least $30 to raise a total of $850 to be donated to The Carolia Charity to build houses for needy families in Seraya, Bali.

Mrs Fletcher said the $850 "gets them a whole brick-and-tile house".

She said the school had a strong connection with Bali, having sponsored a Balinese child for five years, and Friday's donations would go toward the school's third house in Seraya.

"It complements the teaching of Indonesian as a second language at our school," she said.

"We have a growing number of families visiting Seraya and our deputy visits twice a year."

Year 6 student leader Karrak Gregory, 11, helped organise the day for a good cause.

"It's a big success from all the classes raising lots of money to help people in other countries," he said.
