BUNBURY'S best junior motocross riders will get an opportunity to put some fear into their opponents for the National Championships later this year, by showing just how good they are at home.

Shrubland Park will host the national contest late in September, but this weekend they must get through the State Junior MX Championship round on Sunday.

Eight divisions will race across the day, with juniors from across the State looking for the extra practise on the Bunbury track ahead of this year's nationals.

The series has been described as one of the most exciting in recent history, with all divisions yet to be decided.

Bunbury riders Kurt Oinn and Austin Ridley, both 15, finished in the top 10 of the under-15 division in round four earlier this year and will hope to continue their momentum this weekend.

Austin said he was excited to race the State round and Australian Championships on his home track.

"It is really good how the State round is so close to the nationals," he said.

Austin said he would try some new tricks and tactics in hope of getting his form right for the national competition.

Kurt said it would be good for his preparation.

"There will be better competition than on club days," he said.

Kurt sits in fourth position in the 100-125cc 13 to 15 years class, just 55 points adrift of leader Billy Middleton and Mitchell Outram.

But with Billy sidelined through injury it is anyone's race, with Kurt still a slight chance of stealing top spot in the penultimate round.

The final round of the series is at the Wanneroo Junior Motorcycle Club in Wanneroo on September 13.
