Years of dedication results in top gong

After more than five years of hard work at Australind Veterinary Hospital, vet nurse Amanda Vanstone has been recognised by winning the South West Small Business Employee of the Year.

Her win last month followed fellow employee Veronica O'Keefe taking home the same award last year.

Mrs Vanstone said it was unexpected but very exciting.

"After dedicating more than five years at the hospital, it was great to be deserving of the award," she said.

"I love being a vet nurse and working with all the animals.

"My husband actually shed a tear, which was more than special."

Business owner Dr Robert Hill said Mrs Vanstone was chosen to represent the company in the South West Small Business Awards this year after being named the hospital's internal employee of the year by her peers.

"She has outstanding commitment and dedication to her profession," he said.

"She is absolutely passionate, absolutely dedicated and absolutely committed to her job.

"As an employer, you cannot ask for any more than that. She fits the bill."

Dr Hill said when employing staff, he looked for people without egos who showed humility - which Mrs Vanstone personified, he said.
