Parts of WA are set to be smashed by a thunderstorm, with residents told to start preparing for severe weather.

Heavy rainfall and possible flash flooding are forecast for parts of the Goldfields, Eucla and South Interior on Saturday, with the Bureau of Meteorology advising the wild weather is likely to continue into Sunday and Monday.

“Locally intense rainfall which may lead to dangerous and life-threatening flash flooding is also possible with embedded thunderstorm activity in the rain band,” the BOM said.

“Isolated six-hourly totals of around 80mm are possible, with 24-hour totals of 120 to 150mm also possible.”

Locations which may be affected include Balladonia, Cocklebiddy, Eyre, Laverton, Rawlinna and Zanthus.

Residents are being urged via Emergency WA to get ready now by following the below advice:

  • Store or weigh down loose objects around your home like outdoor furniture that could be picked up and thrown by strong winds, causing damage or injury
  • Ensure your emergency kit is complete including a battery-operated radio, torch, spare batteries and first aid kit
  • Ensure pets and animals are in a safe area
  • Move vehicles under cover
  • Boat owners should securely moor their boats
  • Campers should find safe shelter away from trees, powerlines, stormwater drains and streams
  • Unplug electrical appliances and avoid using landline telephones if there is lightning.

If you are away from home contact family or friends to prepare your property.
