Prime Minister Anthony Albanese says he is looking forward to working with Keir Starmer, who is predicted to win the UK election in a landslide victory.

According to the exit polls, the UK Labour Party is set to win 410 seats.

Mr Albanese congratulated the Labour candidates on Friday as votes were being counted.

The Party’s win would crush the 14-year-old conservative government in one of its biggest parliamentary majorities in history.

“Sir Keir Starmer I know well. I have met with him on a number of occasions and we have also engaged on the phone,” Mr Albanese said.

“The exit polls are very strong for Sir Keir Starmer and if they are correct, and historically they have been correct, then Labour is likely to have over 400 seats in the new Parliament and to form a very strong government.

“It’s been a very disciplined, significant campaign by the British Labour Party.”

The Prime Minister said the British Labour Party was a sister party to the ALP.

“They have very similar views to us on a range of issues,” he said.

“I’m sure we will work closely on AUKUS, where we worked very closely as well with the former Government.

“Sir Keir Starmer and I have had discussions about the potential obviously for him to visit this part of the world as part of CHOGM. I would expect that will occur in coming months.”

Mr Albanese wished outgoing UK Prime Minister Rishi Sunak well and said they worked constructively.

He said he met three British prime ministers in his first six months of being the country’s leader.
