A man allegedly armed with a knife has surrendered to police, ending a stand-off lasting almost five hours at an inner-Brisbane apartment building.

The incident occurred after police arrived at the Spring Hill unit at about 11.30am AEST on Monday in relation to a warrant inquiry.

"When they attended the address a male person made threats with what appeared to be an edged weapon," Duty Officer Sean McKay told reporters at the scene.

At the time there were three woman inside the Boundary Street apartment along with the man, the officer added.

Police negotiators arrived and the street was cordoned off to the public.

As negotiations progressed, two women were allowed to leave the apartment.

"One female was kept inside. Negotiations progressed well and then the person of interest subsequently surrendered himself to police," Officer McKay said.

No one was injured in the stand-off which ended at about 5pm.
