WA Liberal Senator Michaelia Cash says No Voice campaign shows way for the party to succeed at election

WA Liberal senator Michaelia Cash has called for party unity ahead of the next Federal election, saying the successful campaign to defeat the Voice was a template for future success. Ahead of today’s WA Liberal State conference, Senator Cash said her message for the party faithful would be about the “power of unity and fighting on principle”. “We stood, united together, and defeated Anthony Albanese’s elitist Canberra-based Voice division,” she said. “There is no doubt that what we have seen over the last few months is the outcome of what we can achieve when we unite, when we stand together and when we fight on principle.” Senator Cash was a key part of the No campaign during the Voice referendum debate. WA comprehensively rejected a Voice to Parliament — as did every other State across the country. “An overwhelming 60 per cent of Australians voted no,” she said. “And in WA, the final result will be almost 64 per cent of our State voting no and sending a clear message to Mr Albanese and Federal Labor.” She said the successful No campaign held clear messages ahead of the 2025 Federal election. “We stood by our convictions — we did not waver, despite the attacks, despite the insults — including from the Prime Minister himself who labelled No voters ‘chicken little’ and doomsayers’ — we stood firm and our principled position prevailed,” Senator Cash said. “October 14, 2023, marked an important turning point in our nation’s history. When we unite and fight on principle, we are successful. “And as we move towards the next Federal election, we cannot forget that.” At the last Federal election in 2022, the Liberals lost key seats in WA — Pearce, Swan, Hasluck and Tangney, and independent Kate Chaney won the once unlosable Liberal seat of Curtin. The Liberals want them back, and Senator Cash said issues like cost of living would be key election battlegrounds. “While Mr Albanese was jet-setting around the country preaching to out-of-touch Yes campaigners, corporates and celebrities and putting the real issues on the back seat, it was Peter Dutton who was out every day calling on the Government to step up and listen to the real concerns of everyday Australians.”
