AFL TRADES: Follow all the action from the first day of the trade period

This is the big deal that could unlock what the Eagles will do in the rest of the draft period.

Mark McKenzie is unsure if it will get done during the first week.

“We understand a significant pick would need to be involved to secure Barrass,” he says.

“[Matt Clarke] has been open and be great, we know he’s been an important player for West Coast for a long time and a significant pick will be associated with that.”

“We think he can play a really key role for us alongside Larkey he led the Eagles for forward 50 tackles and can bring the ball to the ground and compete.”

The Roos are also looking to secure Luke Parker from Sydney though that deal has a bit of work to be done.

Fremantle’s list boss David Walls is speaking.

“Still early days with Shai, he’s a quality player and we’d love to bring him in but there’s still a bit of work to go,” he says on Trade Radio.

“I think picks (10 & 18) sits around the mark but there is a point where we say it’s too much.”

“There’s a lot of clubs keen to get back in and we’ll see how many first-rounders we’ll be holding.”

“We’ve had some encouraging conversations with Brayshaw’s management, he’s commited as anyone to the club.”

Brisbane’s list boss Dom Ambrogio is speaking with the big task for the reigning premiers is how they cover for Joe Daniher.

But Deven Robertson is another name that could be on the move having almost come across to West Coast last season.

“It’s come back that he wants to explore his options,” he told Trade Radio.

“He hasn’t indicated yet where he’d like to go.

“If it benefits all parties involved we’d be open to him to moving.”

Having played in the 2023 grand final loss Robertson played just two games this season and with the likes of Levi Ashcroft to come in will only slide further down the Lions’ pecking order.

New Essendon list boss and former Eagle Matt Rosa was talking about Jake Stringer and Jayden Laverde. Both are contracted for next year but both are looking for longer term deals.

Collingwood’s Joe Richards has requested a trade to Port Adelaide. He won the Harry Collier Trophy as Collingwood’s best young talent on Friday. He played nine games and kicked six goals this season.

Craig McRae made a pitch to Richards on their best and fairest night stating “Joey Richards … (is) a really smart young player and I am excited for what he can be in a Collingwood jumper for years to come.”

However, it appears a three-year offer from the Power is too good.

It’s not a trade but it’s a massive contract with St Kilda forward Max King adding another six years on his existing contract earlier this morning.

It puts King alongside GWS’ Sam Taylor, Western Bulldogs’ Aaron Naughton and Port Adelaide’s Connor Rozee in having the longest deals in the AFL.

He kicked 52 goals in 2022 before injuries have limited him in the past two seasons.

“We’ve long seen Max as a key part of this club’s future, but it feels great to have now made it official,” St Kilda footy boss David Misson said.

“Max’s athleticism and skill is undeniable and, despite playing one of the hardest roles on the field, we’ve seen his incremental growth continue in recent years.
