Melbourne have locked away West Australian gun Koltyn Tholstrup for a further two years after an impressive first season at the Demons.

Tholstrup has re-signed with the club or a further two-seasons after being recruited with pick No.13 in last year’s draft out of Subiaco.

The 19-year-old forward as played six games in his first year, with his best performance coming against West Coast in round 17 when he kicked the first two goals of the match.

Tholstrup made his debut in round five against Brisbane and has played the last five games for the Demons, but will miss the clash against Greater Western Sydney at the MCG on Saturday night because of a concussion.

Melbourne list manager Tim Lamb was full of praise for Tholstrup’s transition to the elite level and his willingness to grow.

“We’re really thrilled that Koltyn has signed on with us for the next few years; he has seized every challenge thrown at him in his first season and has already grown tremendously.

“We can all see the talent he possesses, but his work ethic is what will see him continue to improve. He is a great teammate and has quickly won the respect of everyone at the club.

“He’s really embraced the Melbourne values since his arrival. It is another great sign for our club that such a talented young player has committed long term.”

Tholstrup was already signed until the end of 2026 because of the AFL’s new rules which have first-round draftees automatically signing three-year deals.

But the Demons have handed him another two seasons, locking him away for five seasons.
