The South West Slammers men’s team have a massive double-header this weekend, facing the Rockingham Flames (Friday night at home) and Perry Lakes Hawks in the space of 24 hours.

Although pleased with elements of his side’s 108-93 defeat against the Willetton Tigers last Saturday night in Perth, Slammers coach Shane Goff believes the final margin was not necessarily a true reflection of the game.

“One of the key indicators on the stats sheet was we had more assists than turnovers,” he said. “Which is one of the areas where we are getting better.

“Now I think all it comes down to is our three-point shooting percentage and our defence. If we are start getting a higher three-point percentage and keeping these other important stats in line, I think we will keep moving forward and closing down these gaps (margins) more.

“I can’t say I wasn’t a little disappointed.

“I didn’t think we were a 15-point loss team against Willetton. I was hoping we would get a little bit closer, but this is something we can work on in future.”

Goff and the Slammers are well versed on the Flames, given the fact they locked horns against them on Easter Thursday at the Mike Barnett Sports Complex.

Although this has made scouting a little easier heading into Friday night, Goff has no doubt the Flames will come out breathing fire.

“It is good (having played them recently) however it could also go the other way,” he said.

“Rockingham will come out hungry as I am pretty sure they were disappointed in the outcome of the game. I think that they were hoping for a higher percentage-boosting win.

“So they will come out fired up. With our scouting, we just need to keep working on the things we are good at and eventually it will pay off.”
