Sam Konstas had an unbelievable debut on the Test stage as Australia finally saw solid top-order runs only for Jaspirt Bumrah to haul India back once again.

Relive all the action from the MCG here!

That’s where we’ll leave it

That’s all for now but there’ll be plenty of analysis to come as we await who India put up for their post-day press conference.

It’s been a terrific day of Test cricket and we’ll be back from 7am tomorrow as Australia hope they can hold off Bumrah’s charge. Bye for now!

Honours even

A terrific day of Test cricket sees honours even at the end of Day 1. Sam Konstas’ debut innings will go down in Boxing Day folklore as one of the best exhibitions you’ll see.

The top four for Australia all passed 50 for the first time since 2015 and it looked for a while like they would finish well on top.

But Bumrah summoned up another herculean effort to break through the Aussie middle order before the second new ball before Carey fell late to Deep.

All eyes now turn to Steve Smith to see if he can edge Austalia to a match-winning total and another Test hundred.

STUMPS

Cummins leaves the outswingers and defends the inswinger in between.

He watches the fourth one onto the bat. Short going down leg and Cummins gets out of the way but it’s a no-ball.

Cummins gets two through square leg. Defends the last and the captain survives.

Australia 6/311

Penultimate over

EDGE FOUR. Deep catches Cummins’ edge but it goes down passed thrid slip for a boundary.

He gets off strike with a dab through the gully and there’ll be one more Bumrah over for Australia to survive.

Captain Cummins to the crease

A leg-bye comes off Cummins’ pad to bring up the team 300.

Smith cops one to the box off an inside- edge and takes a few moments to collect himself.

CAREY FALLS TO A RIPPER

Akash Deep comes up with a cracker with one that bounces and jags away to take the shoulder of the bat through to Pant.

Not much Carey could do about that and India strike again.

Now India takes the new ball

Bumrah is good to go and will have the first crack with the new rock as Carey faces up.

The first one swings in to hit Carey’s pad but it’s missing leg by miles.

Carey dances down and chips one in the air but it lands safely for two, had no control over it.

Plays a nice drive through point for a brace to bring up the 50 partnership.

In the air again but at least had a bit more control to get two over mid-wicket.

Gets a single off the pads to finish.

New ball not taken

Sundar bowls to Smith last over before the new ball can be taken.

He’s mostly on the pads but Smith can’t find the gap with his prods.

He rocks back to a shorter ball but again finds the fielder as the maiden is completed.

India don’t take the new ball! Perhaps Bumrah was off for too long so India may have to wait to use him.
