Daren Sammy has been announced as head coach of all three formats in West Indies cricket, adding Test team duties to his resume as of next year.

Cricket West Indies said in a statement on Tuesday that Sammy's first outing with the Test team would be for the home series against Australia in June 2025.

It said Andre Coley, who has held the position of red-ball head coach since 2023, would continue in the role for the upcoming Pakistan tour in January. Coley will then take on high-performance duties with Cricket West Indies.

Under Sammy's tenure, the Twenty20 team rose four places in the ICC rankings, advancing from ninth to fifth. He also led the West Indies' one-day international team to a 3-0 series victory over Bangladesh, ending an 11-match losing streak. That followed a successful ODI series victory against England.

The Saint Lucian-born Sammy, who played 38 Tests and 126 ODIs for West Indies, will celebrate his 41st birthday on Friday.

"Daren Sammy has demonstrated exceptional leadership during his tenure with the white-ball teams," Cricket West Indies president Kishore Shallow said in the statement.

"His vision, dedication, and ability to inspire players make him the ideal candidate to lead across all formats."
