Bunbury and Districts Hockey Association men win 2022 division one CBH Group men’s State country championships

Bunbury is back on top of hockey in the State after completing an unblemished campaign in the recent men’s country championships. The Bunbury and Districts Hockey Association men won the 2022 division one CBH Group men’s State country champs at the weekend, following on from the association’s women’s side who achieved the same feat the previous weekend. The men went undefeated through three days and five games of hockey, sealing their first title in well over a decade with a 2-0 win over Lower Great Southern at Perth Hockey Stadium on Sunday. Coached by South West legend Lawrie Tylor, Bunbury were the dominant force in the tournament and finished with a goal difference of 14 — eclipsing the next best scoring record, held by Upper Great Southern, by a remarkable 13 goals. The ability to find the back of the net was helped largely by Boyanup star and former Australian country under-21 representative Brayden Dalton, who was the tournament’s leading goal scorer. The midfielder, who scored seven goals for Bunbury, said it was “awesome” to be a part of a winning Bunbury side after a series of disappointing campaigns. “It was an awesome experience to have all the boys buy in and want to play at a high level,” Dalton said. “We went up there to win and the professionalism and drive was what got us over the line. “It has been a long time since we have won a country championships, but we have known the talent has always been here to do it. “It was good to show the rest of the State what Bunbury hockey can do.” The win for the men was the crowning jewel in Bunbury’s return as a powerhouse in country hockey in the South West. A week previous on Sunday, June 19, the Bunbury women beat the Lower Great Southern Hockey Association 2-1 in their grand final on to claim there own title.
