There could be a new Sun rising over Gold Coast, with questions around whether the AFL club’s new look has been leaked ahead of a likely rebranding later this week.

Ever since Gary Ablett injured his shoulder causing the club to miss out on finals in 2014, the Suns have been stuck in mediocrity, having failed to more than 10 games in a season since.

But now the club appears to be set to launch an ambitious new era with a new look, which was flagged by jumper collector Andy Munro on his Instagram after it was reportedly leaked on Play AFL.

The new design fuses the G and C together with a sun placed in the middle which looks like it’s rising over the ocean below while still retaining the oval football shape of the original design and features a more muted yellow.

While it is unclear if this will be what the Suns roll out in 2025, particularly given the leaked designs are Auskick uniforms, the Suns have been teasing that something is coming by the end of the week.

7NEWS Melbourne’s Mitch Cleary reportedly earlier this year a new jumper could be just a part of a complete overhaul of the club’s branding.

“Year 14 for the Gold Coast Suns and they feel it’s time to look at a new logo and a new jumper for 2025,” he said.

“They want to win a flag inside three years.

“They’re going wider on the whole market. (A name change) could come into it, but they’re still sticking with the Suns for now.”

The Suns’ potential retro-like look comes after Adelaide launched their new logo last week, which drew mixed responses from the public.

Crows CEO Tim Silvers said it “represented the past and the future.”

“The throwback to the original swooping Crow reinforces our connection to this city and state by the way it now incorporates the actual shape of South Australia,” he said.

“We also wanted to make sure we celebrated our heritage but with a modern look and feel, which we think will resonate with our next generation of supporters.

St Kilda are also looking to update their brand having used the same logo for the past 30 years.

“After considerable consultation with members and stakeholders we are in the final stages of a refresh to our logo,” a Saints spokesperson told AFL.com.au.

“This consultation has allowed us to feel confident that the new design represents our history with pride, while also allowing us to modernise our exciting future.”
