Racing: The wait is finally over, as racing action returns to Bunbury Turf Club on Thursday afternoon

After a two and a half year hiatus, racing will return to the Bunbury Turf Club on Thursday following a $30 million track redevelopment project. Thursday’s meeting, which will be free for all spectators, is expected to draw a steady stream of people throughout the afternoon. In the Melbourne Cup Day@ Bunbury maiden (1108m) punters will get their first opportunity to see Collie filly Run Pattie Run, who will be ridden by Peter Knuckey. Based out of Raquel Williams’ stable, the three-year-old trialled promisingly at Lark Hill on October 2, defeating Secret Girl by 0.8 lengths following a quality turn of foot with less than 200m to run. The filly also looked composed following the release of the gates and maintained her line speed throughout — something which Williams will be keen to see during her first trip to the races. Boyanup’s Michael Lane will also unleash one of his newest pupils, One Above All, who will jump from barrier 10 with Chris Parnham in the saddle. Punters are also likely to keep a close eye on Lane’s four-year-old Magnum Class, who is expected to test Albany-based Little Silver, trained by Steve Wolfe, in the Cuprum Distillery Handicap (1208m). The first race is scheduled for 1.22pm. On Saturday up the hill, Bunbury hoop Kyra Yuill has drawn barrier four with Hoist The Colours, trained by Graeme Evans, for the $35,000 Elders Collie Cup (1990m).
