Formula 1 driver Kevin Magnussen will leave Haas at the end of the season when his contract expires.

Magnussen, 31, is competing in his seventh season with the American team. He has started 135 grand prix across two spells, from 2017-20 and 2022-24.

The former McLaren and Renault driver achieved a career-high ninth in the drivers' standings for Haas in 2018. He has five points this season.

Haas, who announced Magnussen's departure on Thursday, did not say who is going to replace him.

The team has been increasingly linked with a move for Alpine driver Esteban Ocon, who is leaving Alpine at the end of the season, with Magnussen potentially taking his seat at Alpine.

Magnussen said: "I'm proud to have raced for such a great team of people these last few years. While I'm looking forward to the next chapter of my racing career, I remain fully focused on giving everything I've got for the rest of 2024.

"I think right now, there are still many seats available in Formula 1 so I think the best thing to do is just do good races and that means you're staying in the hunt for those available seats."

On the eve of the Hungarian Grand Prix, team principal Ayao Komatsu said he hopes they can "find a way to keep working together in some capacity".

News of Magnussen's departure came after Oliver Bearman signed a multiyear deal with Haas from 2025 onward.

The 19-year old British driver will take the seat vacated by German driver Nico Hulkenberg, who is joining Sauber at the end of the year ahead of their rebranding to Audi for 2026.
