The Kansas City Chiefs have blocked a field goal attempt as time expired to escape with a 16-14 home win over the Denver Broncos and extend their NFL winning streak to 15 games.

The Chiefs had taken the lead on Harrison Butker's field goal with 5:57 remaining, but Bo Nix and the Broncos converted on a trio of third downs while marching right back down field.

They proceeded to set up Wil Lutz for the winner, but Leo Chenal was given credit for coming up the middle amid a big push by the Kansas City defensive line to get his hand on the kick.

Patrick Mahomes finished with 266 yards passing and a touchdown for Kansas City, who became only the fifth team to follow up a Super Bowl triumph by winning their first nine games of the season.

The Chiefs' winning streak dating to last season is the longest in the NFL since the Packers won 19 in a row from 2010-11.

Unflappable in winning their past eight games when trailing in the second half, the Chiefs were down 14-10 at the break.

"I felt like we outplayed them but we didn't finish," Broncos coach Sean Payton said. "That one will take a while. It'll sting."

Travis Kelce had eight catches for 64 yards and a touchdown for Kansas City. DeAndre Hopkins caught four passes for 56 yards, and Kareem Hunt was held to 35 yards rushing but also caught seven passes for 65 yards.

Nix finished with 215 yards passing and two touchdowns for the Broncos (5-5). Courtland Sutton had six catches for 60 yards and a score, and his 13-yard reception on third-and-6 with 1:45 left gave Denver a chance to kick as time expired.

Meanwhile, Eddy Pineiro kicked a 36-yard field goal in overtime as Carolina scored back-to-back wins for the first time this season, beating New York 20-17 in Germany.

The Giants (2-8) won the coin toss to start overtime, but rookie running back Tyrone Tracy fumbled on the first play from scrimmage and Josey Jewell recovered at the 23 for the Panthers (3-7).

The Giants rallied from a 17-7 deficit in the fourth quarter and forced overtime on Graham Gano's 42-yard field goal with five seconds remaining.

In Jacksonville, Florida, Minnesota's stingy defence held the home side to 143 yards as the Vikings overcame Sam Darnold's three interceptions to beat the Jaguars 12-7.

The Vikings (7-2) trailed for most of the day, but took the lead on the third of John Parker Romo's four field goals. Romo hit from 29, 34, 33 and 45 yards in his NFL debut.

In Indianapolis, Josh Allen and James Cook each scored on TD runs to lead the AFC East-leading Buffalo past the Colts 30-20.

The Bills (8-2) extended their winning streak to five with their first victory at Indianapolis (4-6) since 1998.

In other results, the New England Patriots scored a 19-3 win on the road against the struggling Chicago Bears, the Pittsburgh Steelers pocketed a thrilling 28-27 comeback victory over the Washington Commanders, and the New Orleans Saints snapped a seven-game skid with a 20-17 victory over the Atlanta Falcons.

Defending NFC champions the San Franciso 49ers scored a 23-20 win on the road against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, and Los Angeles won their third straight game, beating Tennessee 27-17.

The Arizona Cardinals won their fourth straight game by thrashing the New York Jets 31-6, and the Philadelphia Eagles rolled to a 34-6 victory over the bumbling Dallas Cowboys.

In the late game, the Detroit Lions beat the Texans 26-23 in Houston.
