Bunbury’s Reynolds places seventh in world cup return
Western Australia BMX champion Lauren Reynolds made a successful return to the 2019 UCI BMX Supercross World Cup circuit, finishing seventh in the first round of the National Indoor BMX Arena in Manchester overnight.
The two-time Olympian joined the best riders from around the world came \to kick off their 2019 world cup season with the opportunity to add more Olympic qualification points to their resume for Tokyo 2020.
Bunbury BMX Club’s Reynolds had not competed at a world cup event for over a year and the 27-year old was excited to be back and her result was just an added bonus.
“It’s great to be back here in Manchester and very exciting since I haven’t raced in a world cup for over a year,” she said.
“It’s always really exciting at these events, especially with the challenge that comes with these races.”
Reynolds ended the day in seventh behind Simone Tetsche Christensen, Judy Bauuw and Merle Van Benthem.
Reflecting on her first day back at a world cup event, Reynolds was happy with her performance and is looking forward to what round two brings tomorrow.
“Overall my day went really well,” Reynolds continued.
“I had nice consistent laps throughout the day, and it was just one of those tough races at the end there. The result wasn’t exactly what I wanted, but I saw myself making the main event and I’m happy to be back doing world cup racing.
“Can’t wait to see what round two brings.”
The Australian riders will be looking to improve on their results when racing recommences with round two tonight at 8pm.
