WAFL 2024: Swan Districts to hold Nik Rokahr to contract despite his desire to play for SANFL side Norwood

Swan Districts are set to hold Sandover medallist Nik Rokahr to his contract despite the midfield star wanting to return to Norwood after only one season in the WAFL. The West Australian revealed in October that Rokahr had sensationally walked out on the Bassendean club after only one year, telling officials he wanted to return to South Australia for family reasons. Norwood — who he played 73 games for in four seasons before heading to WA ahead of 2024— has released a statement revealing Rokahr’s hope to return to the Redlegs next year. “The Norwood Football Club was recently informed of Nik Rokahr’s plans to return to Adelaide in 2025,” the statement read. “His decision to relocate to SA is driven by a significant career opportunity and a strong desire to settle back in Adelaide with his partner Blaine. “While Nik is currently contracted to Swan Districts for the 2025 season, Norwood is engaged in discussions with the WAFL club to explore avenues for him to continue his football journey with Norwood in 2025. “Regardless of the outcome, we look forward to welcoming Nik back to Adelaide and integrating him into the Norwood Football Club, whether as a player or in a coaching capacity. “Nik played 73 League matches with Norwood across four seasons before relocating to Perth ahead of the 2024 season. “He was a part of Norwood’s 2022 SANFL Premiership side, and claimed the 2023 Michael Taylor Medal. With Swan Districts this season he was awarded the WAFL’s Sandover Medal.” Rokahr will need to be cleared by Swan Districts for him to return to Norwood because of his contract which does not end until the end of next season. Swan Districts chief executive Jeff Dennis told The West Australian that Rokahr was a contracted player and would be required to play with them in 2025. There is a chance that Rokahr will not be able to play at all next year if the two parties don’t come to an agreement. Rokahr averaged 30 disposals in 21 games this season to help drive Swan Districts to the preliminary final, tying with Claremont midfielder Callan England on 19 votes to win the Sandover Medal. “At this point in time Nik has informed the club he wants to move back to South Australia for family reasons,” Swan Districts coach Andrew Pruyn told The West Australian earlier this year. Swan Districts have already been on a recruiting drive, with former West Coast rookie Zane Trew returning to the club after four seasons in the AFL system.
