It’s the tourist destination fit for a King, and now Perth’s majestic King’s Park and Botanic Garden has been recognised as number one on Tripadvisor’s Traveller’s Choice Awards list for Australia in 2024.

Determined by the quality and quantity of traveller reviews and ratings posted on the platform, the green hangout’s rolling hills and flora-rich walking trails resonated with travellers like no other domestic hotspot had over 12 months.

Achieving a rare feat of almost 12,500 five-star reviews, the jewel in WA’s crown outshone some of the East Coast’s most spectacular and iconic hotspots.

A quick perusal of recent appraisals suggests that the “beautiful” park’s majestic trees, historic war memorial, and panoramic Swan River views underpin its timeless charm.

Sydney’s popular harbour precinct boasted the next three spots, with the Sydney Opera House, Sydney Harbour, and Sydney Harbour Bridge dominating the top five.

It’s worth noting that 2023’s list reversed the top two tourist magnets, as Sydney’s world-famous architectural monolith edged Kings Park and Botanic Garden for first.

In a positive trend for Aussie green spaces, Queensland’s Maleny Botanic Gardens and Bird World took fifth place, Victoria’s Royal Botanic Gardens sixth, and the Royal Botanic Garden Sydney came in eighth.

Once on the list of top landmarks to avoid, Tasmania’s Hobart Penitentiary placed seventh on Tripadvisor’s best, and WA’s Fremantle Prison slotted in at ninth.

Renowned for its storied halls and labyrinth of underground tunnels, the Freo icon is the only World Heritage-listed building in WA.
