The home of Perth’s go-to DJ, Elise Keddie, hits all the right notes when it comes to blending style and relaxation.

After DJing all night at events and weddings around Perth, Keddie likes to come home and relax on the lounge, with her favourite tunes from the 50s to the 80s playing throughout the apartment.

“I work two jobs, so during the day I’m a SHEQ (safety, health environment and quality) manager for Maali Group and at night I DJ, so my home is definitely a sanctuary to return to at the end of the day,” she explains. “I always have music playing on the weekend, but during the week I prefer to watch reality TV and relax on the lounge.”

The Swanbourne apartment, where she lives with her partner, Catherine, and their two Burmillas, Penny and George, provides a peaceful refuge. The complex is close to the beach and has a pool, sauna and gym.

“We love that we are able to start our weekends with a coastal walk and a coffee on our doorstep,” she says. “When I was growing up, we didn’t live close to the beach, and it was a goal of mine to be able to afford to live by the coast one day. Similarly, my partner, Catherine, moved to Australia from Scotland a number of years ago and fell in love with the beautiful beaches WA has to offer.”

The apartment could easily be mistaken as a luxury hotel, with two spacious bedrooms, high ceilings and an abundance of natural light.

“I have definitely put a lot of effort into making the space feel homely, whilst still reflecting our personal style. I moved out of home when I was only 17, so it has taken me many years and working hard at two jobs, to get to the point of being able to make conscious and thoughtful purchases on some of the investment homewares we now have,” she explains.

Keddie finds herself drawn to natural materials and elegant designs that have a minimal aesthetic. Throughout the home are modern pieces from Empire Homewares, Kartique, Country Road and Warehouse Eight.

“One of my favourite items, which has been with me for the past six years, is my beautiful gold vintage mirror that hangs in the bedroom. It’s from Ginger Nightclub before it was renovated and I asked them if I could buy it,” she laughs.

The apartment is filled with an eclectic mixture of art, including a painting by Perth artist Amy Le Fleur and a coastal print by photographer Taylah Roberts.

“For my birthday one year, Catherine had a piece of art commissioned for me from the Perth illustrator, Mekel. It was created from a few different images of me DJing, which is quite cool,” she says.

“We are lucky to have such a large and private outdoor area in an apartment complex. It’s perfect for entertaining when we have friends and family over,” she says.
