Basketeers have more fun

South Western Times

Allowing creative energies to flow, raising money for charity and engaging with the community are benefits of being a "basketeer".

"Being a basketeer is all about meeting people, having fun and selling home-produced items in a basket," organiser Johanna Castro said.

Next Wednesday the Dalyellup Community Hall will become a hive of activity when baskets full of arts and crafts will go on sale, with basketeers contributing $10 each which will go towards charity.

"We particularly saw the need for this with respect to women who might be married to fly-in-fly-out husbands, and the many people who move in to Bunbury from overseas and who have no ready-made support networks or friends," Mrs Castro said.

"The idea behind being a basketeer is to be busy, be creative or industrious, make a little money and in doing so make money for charity too."

The event will run from 9am to 2pm.

Mrs Castro said she would like to hold the events every month and provide opportunities for basketeers to meet up and create together.

"They need to get out and have a chatter and coffee," Mrs Castro said.
