Firefighters worked through the night to control a fire burning near Pile Road in the Davis Forest Block 15km east south-east of Dardanup.

Department of Parks and Wildlife have now contained a fire which threatened lives and homes in the area.

Department firefighters and bushfire volunteers have controlled the fire which started next to Pile Road, but “hop-over” fires have the potential to flare up.

Roads in the area have been closed, including Wellington Forest Road and sections of Pile Road.

An area of the Bibbulmun Track Spur from Wellington Dam to Pile Road is closed and recreation sites in the Wellington National Park and Wellington Discovery Forest may be closed.

The Munda Biddi Trail is also closed from Collie River south along Richards Road to Ferguson Road with a diversion put in place along River Road.
