A fantastic run down the straight gave the Daniel Pearce-trained Stormy Grace her third career win in the $30,000 MGIB Plate (1690m) at Bunbury Turf Club on Friday afternoon.

After hitting the turn in sixth, jockey Jarrad Noske put the five-year-old bay mare into overdrive to pass favourite It’s It and claim the plate and the biggest win of her career.

Drawing barrier 6, Stormy Grace was right in the middle of the pack at the turn and it looked as if Fo’ Shizzle, who was sitting nicely out in third, would storm home for the win.

But Stormy Grace and Noske put in a spectacular performance to run to the line and win by a head in a great finish.

Pearce said she ran well and he thought she was on the cards for a win in the plate.

“I was confident she was going well,” he said.

“It was probably a bit up the grade for her and Jarrad (Noske) did really well getting down the weight so he could ride her.

“She has been going better keeping it quiet and hitting the line. She is a nice filly and is going good.”

The Sharon Miller-trained It’s It was the favourite heading into the race and after hitting the front before the 800m it looked as if the four-year-old brown gelding would storm home.

But he fell asleep on the straight and finished all the way down in seventh.
