Coming from a long reign in executive roles within the Peel region, Mike Sinagra is settling into his new role as principal at Bunbury Senior High School.

Just four weeks into the role, Mr Sinagra has high hopes for the 2020 School of the Year.

“I spent 11 years at Pinjarra Senior High School where I took on various executive roles — there are quite a few similarities between the two schools,” he said.

“When this job became available I thought it would be a great opportunity to share my experiences which I think compliment where the school is at.”

Mr Sinagra said he has many ideas around innovation with regard to how curriculum is delivered that he intends to implement.

“One of the skills I believe our kids need for the future is enterprise skills, that is the ability to be able to problem solve and think critically,” he said.

“That requires a different way of teaching as well and I believe that with my experience in developing teachers at other schools, I will be able to do just that here.”

When asked what his favourite thing about the school was, without hesitation Mr Sinagra said it was the students.

“I don’t know too many by name but all of the students here are friendly and work hard,” he said.

“This is a great school with a real opportunity to have some fresh eyes to take it to the next level and I think I have the experience and capacity to do just that.

“It’s already the best school in the State, it would be great if it became the best school in the country!”
