Thieves allegedly stole handbag, keys, car

Police have charged two men who allegedly stole a handbag from a woman visiting a patient at Bunbury Hospital before stealing her car and then two days later evading police through a school zone in Carey Park.

A woman had her handbag and car keys stolen while visiting the hospital on Sunday and the alleged thieves then found her car.

Bunbury police officers patrolling Withers about 8.35am yesterday spotted the Hyundai Getz on Parade Road and after trying to pull the car over, the driver allegedly sped off.

Police followed the car onto Frankel Street where the car was allegedly driven onto the wrong side of the road before officers were forced to abort the pursuit when the thieves approached Carey Park Primary School’s 40km/h zone.

Police say information was received that the two alleged occupants had abandoned the car at a carpark in South Bunbury and gone into a nearby home.

Police arrested two men at the property.

A 36-year-old Dalyellup man has been charged with stealing a motor vehicle and driving recklessly, reckless driving to escape pursuit, having no authority to drive and failing to stop.

A 31-year-old Dalyellup man has been charged with stealing, stealing a motor vehicle and having no authority to drive.

Both men are due to face court at a later date.
