Nani pleased with players as they aim to extend winning home streak against Collie Eagles
Payne Park has not been a happy hunting ground for the Collie Eagles in recent times.
The Eagles will carry a five-year winless streak at the venue heading into Sunday’s clash against Bunbury, with their last triumph back on May 7. 2017.
Aside from this particular game being their most recent win in East Bunbury, it is also the last time they have registered more than eight goals against the Bulldogs in enemy territory.
Although the Eagles defenders may not have to deal with the likes of Brett Peake, Jordan Adamson-Holmes and Sam Davies — former dominating forwards who kicked big bags of goals against them at Payne Park — on Sunday, there are several new threats that need to be considered.
“I think we had eight different goalkickers against the Harvey Bulls,” Bulldogs coach Jamie Nani said. “It is good to have a spread of goalkickers across different lines, rather than a couple of guys who kick multiple goals.
“It keeps the opposition guessing in terms of who is going to kick goals, so it definitely a good thing.”
After being challenged at times in general play against the Bulls on Sunday night, the Bulldogs produced a quality third quarter burst, inspired by Dylan Heasman, to record yet another quality away victory.
However, Nani is acutely aware of how much heart the Eagles players show every time they represent their beloved club and is urging his players to start strong from the opening bounce.
“Kade (East) has taken the reins up there and has got a different looking side,” Nani said. “But there are also names in that side who are very handy footballers,
“So they will be coming down the hill to play us and be ready to have a go.”
Satisfied with the Bulldogs’ start to the season, Nani is keen for his men to continue to play their brand of football, as he feels it will hold them in good stead.
