SWFL 2022: Donnybrook receive massive boost ahead of home clash against Harvey-Brunswick-Leschenault
Donnybrook’s chances of a maiden finals appearance in the SWFL women’s competition have been supercharged in the lead up to Saturday’s home game against Harvey-Brunswick-Leschenault at VC Mitchell Park.
The Dons, who have been extremely competitive this season, have listed outgoing South Bunbury duo Bethany Bond and Charli Wicksteed in Saturday’s line up.
Bond confirmed the switch on Wednesday morning and said despite being selected for the State country women’s game on Friday night, she would likely play for the Dons on Saturday.
The arrival of both players alone is enough to place the Dons in premiership contention, given what both can bring to a quality side.
Bond, who is the leading goalkicker in SWFL women’s competition history, also has the record for most goals kicked in a single game (eight) — a record shared with her new teammate Lacey Holdsworth.
Wicksteed, who joined Bond at WAFLW outfit Swan Districts earlier this season, is regarded as one of the best midfielders in the competition and a firm favourite to win this year’s Nola Marino Medal.
The Lions were always going to have a tough task on Saturday against Peter Worsfold’s side, however these potential inclusions have added another layer of adversity to their task.
